Celebrating the National Day of the United Arab Emirates

The National Day of the United Arab Emirates is celebrated on December 2nd. On that day in 1971, the seven emirates (Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm al-Quwain) gained their independence from the United Kingdom and united into a federal state.

The National Day is marked across the country with fireworks and cultural events, while residents wear traditional colors of the United Arab Emirates and decorate their homes with flags and national symbols.

This year marked the 50th aniversary of the unification, and the solemn celebration was held at the World Exhibition Expo 2020 Dubai as well. The National Day was marked with a celebratory concert held at the Al-Wasl Plaza, the central stage of the Exhibition, followed by lavish fireworks. The countries participating in the World Exhibition contributed to the celebration by carrying the flags of their countries.
