Week of Urban and Rural Development

„Week of Urban and Rural Development“, whose purpose was to focus on urbanization and the negative effects of rapid urban development around the world, was held at the World Exhibition Expo 2020 Dubai from October 31st to November 6th, 2021.

Given that global population growth continues to be a challenge for existing world cities and communities, Expo 2020 Dubai brought together leaders, experts, and citizens to explore together the possibilities of transforming the way we move, build, consume and live in urban, as well as rural areas.

For that purpose, the Vice President of the European Commission, Ms. Dubravka Šuica, the Ambassador of the EU Delegation to the United Arab Emirates, Mr. Andrea Matteo Fontana, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. Tomislav Bošnjak visited the World Exhibition on November 1st, 2021 and participated in a panel called “Smart Villages”. As part of their participation in this panel, they also visited the Pavilion of the Republic of Croatia and discussed the topics of sustainability and the future of urban and rural areas with the Director of the Pavilion, Mr. Jasmina Devlić.
